The Settings app crashes in Windows 11 [Quick Workaround]

The Settings app in Windows 10 has been the target of a lot of criticism since it was introduced in Windows 10. The complaints center around the fact that it takes a long time to load, and how it frequently crashes, and many users would rather use the Control Panel, but for some reason, Microsoft stuck with the Settings app for the home screen. This is a feature of the Settings app and you cannot change it, but here is a workaround to hopefully help you out.

The Settings app crashes and causes all apps to crash in Windows 11. Now, when the Settings app crashes, it takes all apps with it. The good news is that the Settings app crashes are considered a bug, and Microsoft is working on a fix. The bad news is that Microsoft is not giving a fix date, nor are they stating that a fix will be provided.

  • Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and promised to fix it in a future version.
  • In the meantime, they have provided a workaround that anyone can easily implement.
  • Other Insiders who have updated to the latest version claim that the app is also slow.

Windows 11 is by far the most interesting version of the operating system to date, but like every other version, it has its share of bugs and problems.

Some users have complained on the Microsoft community page that the Settings app in Windows 11 closes automatically.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a known issue affecting devices with multiple user accounts that are subject to the Windows 11 Build 22000.51 update.

We have a solution, which we describe below, but you can also read our Windows 11 release test to learn all about this version of the operating system.

What happens if the application settings fail in version 22000.51?

  1. Press the Start button.
  2. Type powershell and click to open the Windows PowerShell application from the results.
  3. Copy and paste the following command, then press Enter to run it: Get-appxpackage microsoft.ui.xaml.cbs | ? {($_.version -ne 2.62106.1002.0)} | remove-appxpackageAdd-appxpackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown C:WindowsSystemAppsMicrosoft.UI.Xaml.CBS_8wekyb3d8bbwexAppifest.xmlGet-appxpackage microsoft.ui.xaml.cbs | ? {($_.version -ne 2.62106.1002.0)} | remove-appxpackageAdd-appxpackage -Register -DisableDevelopmentMode -ForceApplicationShutdown
  4. Then make sure to open the Settings application.
  5. If not, run the command again and see if the application starts normally.
  6. If the application still fails, restart the computer and try again.

The problem seems to be that the Settings app won’t launch or crashes on devices with multiple user accounts until the version is installed.

Microsoft has published a blog post stating that it is aware of the problem and that a patch is being prepared in a future pre-build.

However, they have also provided a workaround for this problem that can be implemented after the pre-build is installed. Follow the steps above to solve the problem.

Another problem with the Settings application

We don’t know yet if they’re related or not, but other users have also complained on Reddit that the Settings app is very slow:

Is anyone experiencing delays and lags of a second when you click on something in the settings? I have an i5 7200U, 8GB DDR4 RAM 2133Mhz.

It seems that the system has to grind a bit before it turns on when you click on a menu in the Settings app.

Other users have reported experiencing the same problem, but we have not yet found the cause of the problem or a solution.

If you see latency or lag in the settings, try the above solution and see if it improves the situation.

This is not a critical problem, but the 0xc0000005 error is. If you are also experiencing this problem, we have a great guide that will help you solve the problem quickly.
